THE ERNST FAMILY
Family is the foundation of Bona Bona. Behind every animal, auction and achievement stands a family with vision. The Ernsts believe in legacy, loyalty, respect for nature, pride in farming and trust in people. From the patriarch Oom Pieter and his wife Tannie Anele to their children and grandchildren, their values shape every decision. Their story is one of heritage and vision, handed down through generations. Here, children grow up fluent in farming, conservation and care. They are guardians of the land and stewards of wildlife. The Bona Bona story is not only about genetics or auctions. This is a family firmly anchored in African soil. For the Ernst family and friends, it is always about solid values lived daily, shaping decisions that echo into the future. These values influence every decision and inspire everyone connected to Bona Bona to strive for an ever better future.
A family shaped by the veld
Our head of wildlife, Pieter Ernst Jnr, grew up in the veld, developing an instinctive connection with wildlife. Together with his wife Rika, they raise their children in the same environment of respect and responsibility. The family speaks Afrikaans, English and Tswana, reflecting deep bonds with their community. Their children grow up immersed in farming, nature and sustainability. For the Ernsts, family is not an idea but a way of life, one that anchors Bona Bona in authentic long-term values.
