About Bona Bona Wildlife
Bona Bona Wildlife exists to protect, enhance and share Africa’s greatest inheritance, our wildlife. What began as game breeding many years ago, evolved into a forward-thinking enterprise rooted in scientific wildlife breeding, ethical hunting, ecotourism and rural development. Our approach is proudly responsible, regenerative and sustainable. Our community is close to our hearts. We care deeply for animals. We protect and restore habitats. We invest in the next generation. This holistic model ensures relevance, resilience and reputation in a fast-changing world. Anchored in South African heritage and deep family values, Bona Bona is a wildlife enterprise for the long run.
Our story
Bona Bona’s roots stretch back to the Ernst family’s Buisfontein farm. What started as a dream, to live in harmony with the bushveld, has become one of South Africa’s most respected wildlife operations. Through decades of responsible stewardship, the business has evolved into a powerful combination of strong genetics, conservation integrity and hospitality. Every animal, auction and interaction reflects our Ernst family’s founding belief, that the land and those who live from it, must be left stronger than before.
Where we operate
Our Bona Bona headquarters are at the Bona Bona Game Lodge just off the N12 highway close to Klerksdorp in the North West province. Our Safaris ethical hunting operation is situated near Hartbeesfontein on Pieter Ernst Junior’s Buisfontein farm. We also operate in Limpopo at Marakeli near Thabazimbi and in the Green Kalahari at Putpan near Vryburg, as well as in the heart of the Kalahari close to Askham. These regions provide diverse habitats that strengthen our breeding programmes and enrich visitor experiences across South Africa.
